October is one of my favorite months in our calendar, not just because the air turns crisp and job sites feel a little lighter, but because it’s Careers in Construction Month. It’s a moment to step back and recognize what our industry builds beyond foundations and rooftops: we build opportunity. Every apprenticeship started, every classroom visit, every scholarship awarded is a brick in the future of our workforce and our communities.
This edition of the newsletter leans into that theme. You’ll find stories that showcase how our members support one another, how we advocate for housing at the local and national level, and how we spark curiosity in the next generation. It’s a snapshot of an association that’s alive with purpose, and I couldn’t be prouder.
Workforce development is one of the best examples of why it pays to belong to this association. Together, we are making investments that no single business could take on alone, scholarships for students, programs like Frame the Future, and outreach at schools and community events that inspire kids to see themselves in our industry. That’s the power of membership: when we come together, we can move the needle in ways that shape our workforce for decades to come.
But workforce isn’t the only reason to belong. Membership also means your voice is represented when it comes to protecting the freedom to build, whether that’s through our Local Government Affairs Committee working on issues like growth boundaries in Harrisburg or through NAHB advocating in Washington. It means opportunities to network and connect with peers at socials, lunches, and statewide gatherings that strengthen relationships and open doors. And yes, it also means programs that deliver real business value, like our Member-to-Member Discount Program, which helps your company stand out while encouraging members to do business with members.
All of this is part of the bigger story of what it means to be an HBA member: you get to learn, to protect your business, to connect, and to save, all while contributing to the growth of our industry and our communities.
And the best way to experience that value is to get involved. This fall is full of opportunities to do just that. From celebrations that bring us together socially, to spotlights that showcase our member businesses, to education sessions where we learn from experts, and special gatherings like our Annual Gala in November where we honor outstanding members and welcome a new Builder Hall of Fame inductee, there are so many ways to plug in. Each one is a chance to connect, to celebrate, and to grow as a member of this incredible association. Scan the QR code below to see what’s coming up and get registered. I encourage you not just to read about these events but to attend them. When you show up, you strengthen not only your business, but the entire association.
As we celebrate Careers in Construction Month, let’s recommit ourselves to investing in people, protecting our industry, and supporting one another. When we build together, we build a stronger future for everyone.
