SDHBA Fall Update from the President

As I reflect on this season, I’m reminded what a privilege it is to serve as president of the South Dakota Home Builders Association. Working alongside such a dedicated group of professionals who care deeply about our industry is both humbling and inspiring. In this role, one of my greatest responsibilities is helping guide our association forward on the big issues that shape our future statewide.

This October, we celebrate Careers in Construction Month, which gives us the perfect opportunity to spotlight one of our top priorities, workforce development. As an association, we know that our future depends on attracting, educating, and retaining the next generation of builders, tradespeople, and industry leaders. That’s why we are committed to supporting student chapters at all levels, strengthening communication across the state, and creating opportunities for young people to get hands-on experience in construction. Workforce development is one of our “big rocks,” and together with our local HBAs, we are determined to keep moving the dial in a positive direction.

Over the summer, we were fortunate to gather with members across South Dakota to reconnect, celebrate milestones, and share ideas. These experiences remind us that while each local has its own strengths, we are united by the same mission: to grow and sustain our industry for the future.

Looking ahead, the big event for our state association is just around the corner, our SDHBA Board Meeting and Annual Banquet, November 6–7 in Aberdeen, my hometown. This gathering is always a highlight of the year, and this year promises to be especially meaningful. In addition to conducting our board business, we will take time to honor members with awards, celebrate the many wins we’ve had as an association, and reflect on the impact we are making together statewide. It will be a moment to acknowledge those who go above and beyond for our industry, to share stories of success, and to recognize the collective achievements that strengthen our association year after year. Just as importantly, it will be a chance to come together socially, to enjoy good food, great company, and the fellowship that makes our SDHBA family so special. I hope you’ll join us in Aberdeen to be part of both the celebration and the conversations that will guide our path forward. If you would like to get registered, please reach out to the HBASE office, they’ll be happy to assist you. The spirit of that celebration ties directly to the message of Careers in Construction Month: that the work we do today will echo in the opportunities we create for tomorrow.

Thank you for all that you do in your communities and for your ongoing commitment to building a better South Dakota. I look forward to seeing many of you soon.
