Jobsite Thefts

Recent Jobsite Theft Reports

When a construction jobsite has a reported theft, the HBASE office is informed of the general details. This is in an effort to spread awareness about this ongoing problem in our community. Use this as a reminder to keep your jobsite secure at all times.

Below is the list of recently reported jobsite thefts in the Sioux Falls area at residential construction jobsites. The HBASE office does not have additional information than what is posted below.

Northeast part of Sioux Falls (September 2017)

  • Suspects cut the locks off of two separate trailers and stole approximately a total of $2,500 in tools. No serial numbers were available.
    • Suggested tip: Back the trailer up to the garage or side of the house so even if they break off the lock, they can't gain access into the trailer. Be sure to park a vehicle in front of the trailer (remove the keys!) so they can't simply move the trailer by hand.

Southwest part of Sioux Falls (September 2017)

  • Suspects cut the lock off a trailer and stole approximately $2,000 in tools.

  • Suspects pried off the door of a van and stole approximately $4,000 in tools. No serial numbers were available.
    • Suggested tip: Consider investing in an onsite security camera that can be moved from jobsite to jobsite as needed. It may be a rather high expense up front but in the end, it could help deter theifs and/or give police better tips as to who the criminals are.

Central part of Sioux Falls (June 2017)

  • Suspects entered the unlocked trailer and stole approximately $1,900 in tools. No serial numbers were available but the tools were marked with initials of the owner.
    • Suggested tip: Lock the trailer whenever your crew is not onsite. Then back the trailer up to the garage or side of the house so even if they break off the lock, they can't gain access into the trailer. Be sure to park a vehicle in front of the trailer (remove the keys!) so they can't simply move the trailer by hand.

Southeast part of Sioux Falls (June 2017)

  • Suspects cut off the lock on the job trailer and stole approximately $4,500 in tools. The tools' serial numbers were tracked by the contractor and reported to police.
    • Suggested tip: Back the trailer up to the garage or side of the house so even if they break off the lock, they can't gain access into the trailer. Be sure to park a vehicle in front of the trailer (remove the keys!) so they can't simply move the trailer by hand.
