Local Home Builders Association Promotes Safety Education for the Construction Industry


Sioux Falls, SD (May 10, 2017) - - - According to OSHA and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, out of 4,379 worker fatalities in private industry in the 2015 calendar year, 937 or 21.4% were in construction — that is, one in five worker deaths last year were in construction. May 8-12, 2017 is National Safety “Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction” week. The local Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE) is dedicated to the promotion of best safety practices for construction jobsites. Each month, the association holds an educational safety course as a part of their ongoing Safety Series. The classes are open for member and non-member companies to register. The HBASE encourages all local companies to register their employees for these courses as a way to improve the safety knowledge and awareness of everyone involved in helping to grow our communities.

Upcoming 2017 Safety Series Courses:

  • Hand and Power Tool Hazards – June 6 ($40 HBASE Members / $80 Non-Members)
  • Fall Protection; Competent Person Training – July 11 ($80 HBASE Members / $160 Non-Members)
  • PPE & Life Safety Equipment – August 1 ($40 HBASE Members / $80 Non-Members)
  • Trenching & Excavation; Competent Person Training – September 5 ($80 HBASE Members / $160 Non-Members)
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Course – November 7 & 8 ($150 HBASE Members / $300 Non-Members)
  • Most Frequently Cited OSHA Violations – December 5 ($40 HBASE Members / $80 Non-Members)
