HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION’S 25TH ANNUAL REPAIR AFFAIR™ DAY TAKING PLACE JUNE 6TH

SIOUX FALLS, SD (June 1, 2017) - - - Members of all skill levels within the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE) plan to donate their time and expertise on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 during the Annual Repair Affair. With over 65 volunteers, the group will separate out to make repairs on nine different homes (eight in Sioux Falls and one in Brandon). The volunteers will do repairs for homeowners in need of accessibility issues, such as building wheelchair ramps, installing grab bars, installing handrails and replacing doorknobs with levers.

“We are excited about the number of applications we’d received this year and are ready to get out there and help out those that need home updates to fit their current accessibility needs so they can get around better,” said Brad Mair, Repair Affair Committee Chair. “It’s always fun to see how well everyone works together for such a great cause. We are so glad to be a part of such a great community service project.”

The repairs will be done at no cost to the homeowner thanks to funding by a grant from Sioux Falls Community Development and funds from the Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation. Since 1993, over 200 Repair Affair projects have been completed by volunteers with over 5,000 volunteer man hours. The HBASE Public Relations Committee developed the idea in October 1993 as a way of updating the homes of the elderly and disabled - adapting to current needs at no charge to the homeowner.

All approved projects are completed in just one day. The repairs are done on an annual basis but the application process alone can take up 6 months as they are first accepted by the Home Builders Association’s office in January.

Applicants for Repair Affair must meet income guidelines, be the homeowner and be either over 65-years-old or permanently disabled. The Repair Affair Committee thoroughly reviews each application prior to approval.

Repair Affair Day is sponsored by Great Western Bank. Many other area businesses donated items such as food, drinks, ice and t-shirts. A special thanks to all those for their donations, especially the volunteers who will donate their time on this special day. For more information on the event, please visit hbasiouxempire.com.
