HBASE Helps Grant Olivia's Wish

Members of the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE) teamed up with Make-A-Wish South Dakota to help grant the wish of  a new playhouse for 3-year-old Olivia, a cancer patient from Sioux Falls. HBASE volunteers donated their time and talent to fulfill her wish request of a new playhouse.

“Our association was very excited to assist with this project,” said Chuck Wiseman, 2012 President of the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE). “This was a fun and very rewarding undertaking for myself and our volunteers.”

Over 30 volunteers from the HBASE built and painted the two-story playhouse onsite during the week of April 23. The construction process was led by Chuck Wiseman, Complete Contracting (2012 HBASE President), and Kevin Zomermaand, Zome’s Construction (2012 HBASE Vice-President).

“This playhouse will definitely fulfill Olivia’s wish,” said Kevin Zomermaand. “The fully decorated playhouse will be approximately 8 feet wide by 12 feet tall plus a 4 foot deck on the upper level that leads out to a slide.”

The playhouse was unveiled on World Wish Day on Sunday, April 29 at 1:30pm at her home in Sioux Falls. Make-A-Wish supporters around the globe celebrated World Wish Day by granting numerous wishes of children ages 2½ to 18 with life-threatening medical conditions. Olivia faces Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a form of leukemia, or a cancer of the white blood cells.

“We granted Olivia’s wish to celebrate World Wish Day and highlight the hope, strength and joy that Make-A-Wish brings children every day,” said Paul Krueger, Make-A-Wish South Dakota president and CEO. “We encourage people to join in the celebration and help us reach every eligible wish child in South Dakota.  We are grateful to the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire, Scott’s Lumber and Adopt-A-Wish partner Dale Axtell for making Olivia’s wish come true.”
